THE ORGANIZATION

The Concept of an Integrated Services Logistics Center is developed around the world where there is oil activity, offering a full range of services to the Oil and Gas industry in the region where it is located, providing each company with facilities and dedicated areas for the management and operation of its logistics activities capable of supporting the growing offshore operations. At the moment, the SONILS Integrated Services Logistics Center is completely self-sufficient in electricity, water, communications, catering facilities, transport, among others. In the case of Angola, and more specifically Luanda, SONILS was initially set up to develop the Luanda Logistics Base as operator of the concession between Sonangol EP and the Port Company of Luanda EP, but it quickly became a much more ambitious project, with the development of a complete Integrated Services Logistics Center

The strategic decision

In February 1993, SONANGOL EP’s Board of Directors carried out a feasibility study for the development, in Luanda, of an Integrated Services Logistics Center to support the Oil Industry as an alternative to the bases of Soyo and Point Noire in the Republic of Congo. In 1995, with the vision and philosophy of helping and improving the global daily logistics delivered to the region’s Oil and Gas Industry, in a particularly difficult environment, SONILS inaugurated the Integrated Services Logistics Center and began to cooperate with most companies which operate in the Oil and Gas sector operating in Angola.

STRATEGIC POSITIONING

For the Angolan State, SONILS’ legacy represents a significant investment in Angola’s infrastructures, creating employment opportunities, knowledge and technology transfer, with 99% of its employees being nationals. This investment and strategic positioning provide a greater incentive to the investment in the Oil Industry, facilitating and turning the operations in this sector more flexible.
Within the oil industry, SONILS is flexible and adapted to all logistics services, turning its operations more efficient and economically favourable. Its integrated infrastructure is capable of providing communications, transportation, energy, water supply and catering networks, autonomously and shared to its customers, which in this industry represents a logistical advantage.
The partnership with Sonangol allows SONILS to provide assistance in specialized Consulting projects, such as the replication of the Integrated Services Logistics Center model in other countries (São Tomé, Cuba, etc.). Examples of the advantages of this partnership are the container terminal – National Reconstruction Office (GRN); the docking point for fuel discharge and the infrastructure of generators in floating platforms.
